Arbor Day in Greenville was celebrated as a two day event this spring.

On Thursday April 28th there was a presentation of the Kapok Tree at the Boys and Girls Club’s Lucille Gorham Center.

The club members loved it – especially the scene where the tree frog surprised the tall friend who was sent to chop down the Kapok tree

 

We were at the Boys and Girls Club again on Friday afternoon where the Mayor delivered a proclamation on the importance of trees in Greenville. Forest Ranger Robin Weber then presented the Tree City flag to the Mayor and the city for the thirty fifth year.

Representative Brian Farkas brought greetings from the legislature and discussed his support for a grant proposal to locate the approximately  3,000 trees that Re Leaf had planted in the city , but best of all were the club members singing a song about the importance of trees.

This was accompanied by a chorus of violins. The only event more fun than this musical presentation was planting seven trees on the site of the Boys and Girls club. Club members helped plant these trees as they did when we planted 38 trees in West Greenville in the fall of last year.

All in all it was a good day for remembering the importance of  trees,  and the club members and audience all seemed to enjoy the celebration
