Arbor Day

Celebrating Trees in Our Community

Arbor Day is a national celebration of trees; planting them, caring for them, and recognizing the many ways they enrich our lives. Founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton, the day has grown into a tradition that brings communities together across the country.

Here in Greenville, ReLeaf partners with schools, city leaders, and community members to honor this tradition each spring. The celebration often includes a student essay contest, where fourth and fifth graders share their reflections on the importance of trees. Winners are recognized with prizes, certificates, and memberships. City officials and forestry experts offer proclamations and presentations, and the day concludes with the planting of new trees; giving students and community members the chance to take part in Greenville’s growing urban forest.

Arbor Day is more than a ceremony, it’s an investment in our future. By teaching children the value of trees and planting new ones together, we ensure that Greenville remains a greener, healthier, and more connected community.
