How It All Began
The idea for Community Tree Day started with Public Works’ Ken Jackson and Kevin Heifferon. Back in February 2011, they imagined what would happen if the community came together to plant trees in one day. That first planting was the beginning of a tradition that continues to grow stronger each year.
More Than Just Planting Trees
Community Tree Day isn’t only about putting trees in the ground—it’s about building connections. Neighbors meet each other, families come out to volunteer, and kids learn firsthand how trees benefit their city. The shared work creates a sense of pride and ownership that lasts long after the shovels are put away.
Why It Matters
When we plant trees together, we’re planting more than roots—we’re planting hope. We’re reducing flooding, cooling our neighborhoods, cleaning the air, and creating habitats for wildlife. But most importantly, we’re creating a stronger, healthier community.
