On Friday May 1st, ReLeaf and the City of Greenville participated in an Arbor Day Celebration at Wahl Coates Elementary School.
City Councilwoman Marion Blackburn, read Mayor Thomas’ proclamation naming May 1st Arbor Day. 4th and 5th Grade Students read excerpts from past Arbor Day Essays, and Kevin Barnes, PLA, a landscape architect from ECU and member of ReLeaf, honored Commemorative Tree Honorees.

Kevin Heifferon, the City Arborist, received the City’s 26th Tree City Award. To be eligible for the Tree City USA recognition, a city must have an Arbor Day observance and proclamation, a tree ordinance, a tree board or department (Community Appearance Commission fills this), and a community forestry program with an annual budget of more than $160,000
After the assembly, a tree was planted on the grounds of the Elementary School.
